Kings Head

The rural coastal community of Kings Head is located between Little Harbour and Melmerby Beach along the Northumberland Strait. The nearby headland was named Kings Head as early as 1781 and from this geographic feature, the community got its name. Woodburn - Pictou County

Woodburn

Woodburn, is a rural community located south of Kings Head along the west end of Merigomish Harbour. It was originally known as the Pine Tree Gut but later renamed Woodburn after John Wood, who received a grant of land here in 1810, combined with the Scottish word, “burn” means a rivulet or brook. The community name was also once spelled  Woodbourne, which you can notice on the original Land Grant map for the area. Melmerby Beach is a 2 km long sandy beach located north east of Little Harbour. It was named after the ship Melmervey that was wrecked on the just off shore in 1890, and over the years the spelling changed to Melmerby. The bBeach is one of Nova Scotia’s popular summer destinations, well known for its relatively warm water, (averaging over 19° C in the summer).
