Pleasant Valley is a rural community located south of the Trans-canada Highway, west of Union Centre. The name is descriptive. Thomas McKenzie, a blacksmith from Gairloch, Ross-shire, Scotland, 1805 and Alexander McDonald were both settled here by 1814.
Union Centre is a rural community located south of Westville. It may have been so named because it was one of the main crossings over the Middle River and thus a junction or centre of roads from East and West Rivers as well as of roads leading up both sides of the Middle River.
Rocklin is a rural community located on the upper Middle River, south of Union Centre. A “lyn” is a term for waterfall and possibly the name was probably inspired by a prominent rocky waterfall.
