Elmfield
Elmfield is a rural community located east of Plainfield the West River. It was probably so named because of prominent elm trees in the area.

Plainfield
Plainfield is a rural community located west of Scotsburn, along NS Route 256 (Scotsburn Road) near the headwaters of the east branch of the River John. The name is descriptive and was provided sometime before 1859.
1879 Scotsburn Map (Section 6)
The 1879 Scotsburn Map (Section 6) is one of the several maps included in the 1879 Historical Atlas of Pictou County. It shows the basic topographic features of the community along with with prominent land owners and locations of buildings. Section 6 map also featured the communities of Scotsburn, Plainfield, Rogers Hill, and Six Mile Brook.
