Anderson Mountain

Anderson Mountain is a modestly elevated peak at 100 meters situated in the community of Anderson Mountain. The prominence of Anderson Mountain is 35m/115ft., by elevation it ranks 23rd in Pictou County, 15th for prominence. Prominence highlights independent mountains and high points, while elevation alone does not distinguish free-standing peaks from sub-peaks on a larger massif. Both metrics are useful for categorizing and describing mountains.

Blue Mountain is a modestly elevated peak at 226 meters situated between the communities of Blanchard Road and Blue Mountain. The prominence of Blue Mountain is 30m/98ft., by elevation it ranks 10th in Pictou County, 16th for prominence.

Granton - Pictou County

Granton

The community of Granton is located on the east side of the Middle River between Mount William and Sylvester. It was named after a seaport in, Scotland. Granton is home to a Michelin a tire production facility and a SPCA animal shelter.

Kings Head - Pictou County

Kings Head

The rural coastal community of Kings Head is located between Little Harbour and Melmerby Beach along the Northumberland Strait. The nearby headland was named Kings Head as early as 1781 and is included on the 1977 Northumberland Strait map. In the past the name was often spelled King’s Head. The Mi’kmaq Name for the area was Panoqopskalajue’katik, meaning at the opening by a little rocky hill.

Pictou

Town of Pictou

Pictou is a small a historic Town in Pictou County located along the west side of Pictou Harbour. The name is believed to be derived from the Mi’kmaq word “Piktook” meaning a large explosion, and references the noise made by large waves. It is also believed that it could be a corruption of Poictou, an old province in France. The town was laid out in 1788 and the first house was built about 1790.

Low Moor - Pictou County

Low Moor

Low Moor is an early settlement area in Pictou County, the name is no longer used but you can find it on many older historic maps. It was located north of Beaver Lake along the Sunny Brae Eden Road in-between the communities of Kerrowgare and Eden Lake. The name was descriptive, with “moor” meaning a tract of wasteland or unenclosed land. 

McGraths Mountain - Pictou County

McGraths Mountain

The rural area of McGraths Mountain near the headwaters of the East Branch of French River, located west of the community of Laggan. It was named after early settlers.

West Branch - Pictou County

West Branch

West Branch  is a rural community located along the Scotsburn Road on the West Branch of River John.
