Roy Island, located in the community of Melmerby Beach  is connected to the main land by a 2 km long sandy spit. It is one of the small but memorable coastal features that help define the character of the community. Situated just offshore from the famous sandy shoreline, the island is a low, rocky outcrop shaped by wind, waves, and the steady rhythms of the Northumberland Strait.
