Merigomish Harbor’s rich mapping history reflects its importance as both a fishing hub and a sheltered harbour. Comparing this historical chart with current digital nautical charts can reveal how coastal processes and human structures have reshaped the harbor over the past century. Merigomish Harbour Provincial Park, located north west of Quarry Island, is a small Provincial Park (about 20 hectares in size) nestled along the shores of Woodburn was designated in 2024. There is no road access into this park, however unlike most traditional Provincial parks this is one of the ones that is meant more for protecting Nova Scotia environment.
Olding Island, is a large island located in the sheltered waters of Merigomish Harbour. The island is also sometimes referred to as Point Betty Island. The island belongs to a coastal landscape long used by Indigenous peoples and later by settlers who fished, foraged, and navigated these waters.
Muless Island is a small coastal island located in Merigomish Harbour, just south of Quarry Island. It is part of the islands included in Merigomish Harbour Indian Reserve 31 (part of the Pictou Landing First Nation) established in 1865.

Sutherland Islands, refers to a few small coastal islands located in Merigomish Harbour, just north of Indian Island, between Quarry Island and Olding Island.
Burnt Island is a small private island attached to the north side of Quarry Island via a small spit located in Merigomish harbour within the community of Woodburn.
Pine Tree Gut is located between the communities of Pine Tree and Sutherlands River, on the south side of Quarry Island, where Pine Tree Brook empties into Merigomish Harbour.
