Aulds Mountain is located north of the Trans Canada Highway with a spatial extent spread across the communities of Avondale, Piedmont, Kenzieville, and Broadway. Several wind turbines are located here in what is referred to as the Aulds Mountain Wind Farm.
Merigomish is a rural community located on the south side of Merigomish Harbour between Egerton and Lower Barneys River along the Sunrise Trail. Early one it was known as Malegonish, originating from the Mi’kmaq word “Mallegomichk” (meaning the merrymaking place). This was one of the popular Mi’kmaq gathering areas.
Piedmont, rural community, Merigomish. Later the name was given for its location at the foot of a range of hills. It was settled about 1810-1816 by James Haggart of Kenmore, Scotland, and others from Blair Athole, Scotland.
The 1879 Kenzieville Map (Section 20) is one of the several maps included in the 1879 Historical Atlas of Pictou County. It shows the basic topographic features of the community along with with prominent land owners and locations of buildings. Section 20 map also featured the communities of Avondale, Piedmont, Barneys River, and Lower Barneys River.
The 1879 Merigomish Map (sections 21 and 24) is one of the several maps included in the 1879 Historical Atlas of Pictou County. It shows the basic topographic features of the community along with with prominent land owners and locations of buildings. It also contains the communities of Egerton, Piedmont, Telford, French River, Meiklefield, and Woodfield.
