McGregor Mountain is located in the communities of Plymouth and Mountville. It is part of the rolling upland terrain that defines central Pictou County. Its modest elevation of 177 metres (580 feet) provides local relief and contributes to the rural landscape around Mountville.
Mountville is a small rural community located south of McLeallans Brook along the Mountville Road. In 1884, at a public meeting the inhabitants agreed to change the name of the village to Mountville. Much of the land here was granted to people who were settled near the East River by 1789.
