Sutherland Bog

Sutherland Bog is a large wetland located in the community of Mount William, north of the Trans Canada Highway in Pictou County. It is an important geographic feature that contributes to the county’s natural heritage, ecological health, and landscape.  Its terrain is characterized by poorly drained soils, peat deposits, and sphagnum moss, typical of bog ecosystems in Nova Scotia.

Granton - Pictou County

Granton

The community of Granton is located on the east side of the Middle River between Mount William and Sylvester. It was named after a seaport in, Scotland. Granton is home to a Michelin a tire production facility and a SPCA animal shelter.

Mount William - Pictou County

Mount William

Mount William is a community located about halfway between the East River and Middle River branches of Pictou Harbour. It may have been named after either William Porter or William Fraser who received grants here or after William Porter’s father of the same name.

Bear Brook - Pictou County

Bear Brook

There are two brooks in Pictou County known as Bear Brook, one flows from the Mount William area to Alma into the Middle River of Pictou; & the second flows south west towards Barneys River Station into Barneys River.

Waters Brook - Pictou County

Waters Brook

Waters Brook is a small stream that flows from the Sutherland Bog area west into Bear Brook , located just north of the Trans Canada Highway near Mount William. It then flows into the Middle River of Pictou.
