Caribou Island is located on the north side of Caribou Harbour along the Northumberland Strait. The Mi’kmaq name was “Komoogun-uk” meaning where birds are decoyed. William Rodgers from Ireland first settled here about 1803. A Lighthouse at Gull Point on the north east end of the Island, it was first built in 1868. The name refers to both a terrain feature and the community.

Waterside Beach Provincial Park, provides protection to salt marsh natural habitat, and boardwalk access to a beautiful long sandy beach.
