Hedgeville
Hedgeville is a small community in Pictou County located east of River John, and south of Melville and Seafoam. The community sits in a gently rolling rural landscape between the Northumberland Strait coastline and the interior uplands of Pictou County. The network of neibouring communities share cultural, economic, and historical ties, particularly through agriculture, forestry, and coastal connections.
Caribou Island
Caribou Island is located on the north side of Caribou Harbour along the Northumberland Strait. The Mi’kmaq name was “Komoogun-uk” meaning where birds are decoyed. William Rodgers from Ireland first settled here about 1803. A Lighthouse at Gull Point on the north east end of the Island, it was first built in 1868. The name refers to both a terrain feature and the community.

Caribou River
Caribou River is a rural coastal community located along on the Northumberland Strait. along NS Trunk 6 (Sunrise Trail) between Toney River and Three Brooks.
Waterside
Waterside is a rural area is located north of Three Brooks at the mouth of the Caribou River, where it drains into Caribou Harbour. Settlement begun around 1806 by Donald McLeod, Neil, Roderick, Kenneth and Alexander McKenzie who came from Scotland. Waterside Beach Provincial Park, provides protection to salt marsh natural habitat, and boardwalk access to a beautiful long sandy beach.
Pictou Island
Pictou Island is an island community located in the Northumberland Strait about 7.5 km north east of Caribou Harbour. The island is mainly wooded, with several clearings, and contains a small population spread across the island.
Seafoam
Seafoam is a rural area located along Nova Scotia Trunk 6 between the communities of Melville and Toney River, and to the east of Cape John. It offers stunning views of the Northumberland Strait overlooking Prince Edward Island and its beautiful beaches.
