Bigney
Bigney is a small rural community located south east of River John in Pictou County.
East Branch
East Branch is a rural community located along the East Branch River John, which is a tributary of the larger River John. The community was named after the River is is located upon.
College Grant
College Grant is a small rural community located next to the Pictou County and Colchester County boundary line, and west of East Branch along College Grant Road.
West Branch
West Branch is a rural community located along the Scotsburn Road on the West Branch of River John.
Dalhousie
Dalhousie is a rural community located south of Loganville. The first settlers in this area had some difficulties, and obtained help from the Earl Dalhousie to settle their titles to the land, and then honoured the Earl by naming the location after him in 1819.
River John
River John is a community located along the Northumberland Strait at the mouth of River John where it empties into John Bay. It was named after an early settler, John Patuguin. The Mi’kmaq name for the community is “Kajeboogwek” meaning flowing through desert or solitary place. Other early names for the area were Deception River, and John’s River.
Louisville
Louisville is a rural community located close to the Colchester / Pictou county line, south of River John along the Louisville Road. In 1812, Lewis Langille, Lewis Tatterie, Peter Mattatal, Hugh Munroe and Alexander Smith applied for land in this area.
