Rockfield is a small rural community located south of Scotsburn and west of Durham. Settled in the 19th century by Scottish immigrants, the area developed around small farms. The name was given by an Act of Parliament in 1885, and prior to that was known as the settlement of Auclein Caim. This Rockfield Map was created by combining modified topographic data, community details, and a shaded relief model to depict terrain features.
Hugh Brook is a small freshwater stream in the Pleasant Valley area of Pictou County that flows northeast into the Middle River.
Six Mile Brook is a rural community located south of the community of Four Mile Brook. It is also the name of the brook that starts flowing near the base of Dalhousie Mountain, and flows west through the community of Six Mile Brook and into eventually into the West River.
The rural community of Durham is located west of Sylvester. It was named after the Earl of Durham (Governor-General of of British North America) in 1838., and was previously known as West River.
Green Hill is an elevated terrain feature of about 199 metres (653 feet) above sea level located in the community of Greenhill. The Greenhill Lookoff Museum was located here before the Province purchased it in 1959 and opened Greenhill Provincial Park. It was created in 1930 and operated by Cliff Ross, and considered by many locals to a notable Pictou County landmark. The museum was initially a tourist attraction with observation decks and a telescope, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Tanner Hill is an elevated terrain feature of about 134 metres (440 feet) above sea level located just north of the Trans canada Highway in the communities of Limerock, Central West River, and Greenhill.
Beech Hill is a small elevated area in the community of Heathbell.
The community of Lyons Brook is located on the west side of the mouth of the West River of Pictou. It was named after Reverend James Lyon, a Philadelphia emigrant who arrived in 1767. In 1903, by act of the Provincial Legislature, this name was officially given to an area previously known as “Logans Tannery”, “Scotch Hill West River Road” and “Lyons Brook.”
