The Sunnybrae Game Sanctuary is a large protected wildlife area in Pictou County, established in 1930. It helps protect woodlands, lakes, and wetlands near the community of Sunny Brae, offering important habitat for wildlife.
Archibald Brook is a small natural watercourse in the Pictou County that originates in the uplands around of the community of Glencoe. From its headwaters east of Little Lake, the brook flows north through wooded and agricultural landscapes, eventually emptying into the East River near the Bridgeville area.
McKinnon Lake is a fresh water lake located south of Sunny Brae, within the the Sunny Brae Game Sanctuary. In 1930 the Canadian General Council of the Boy Scouts Association requested the area of land around McKinnon Lake to be set aside for the use of the Boy Scouts.
Beaver Lake is a common name, and there are two lakes in Pictou County with that name, and there are actually over a dozen lakes in Canada with this name. Sunny Brae is a rural community located near the head of the East Branch of East River. It has been variously known as Pleasant Valley, Frasers Mills and Upper Settlement. The place name Sunny Brae is said to have been suggested in 1879 by W. L. Kennedy. “Brae” is a Scottish term meaning “hillside or slope.”
