The rural coastal community of Black Point is located along along the Northumberland Strait on the west end of Little Harbour. From early maps created, you can see that the point was originally known as Evans Point. It was changed Black Point in 1976.
Woodburn Station, is a rural area located between Woodburn and Frasers Mountain along the Glenfalloch Road. It was once a stop along the rail line between New Glasgow and Antigonish.
The rural coastal community of Kings Head is located between Little Harbour and Melmerby Beach along the Northumberland Strait. The nearby headland was named Kings Head as early as 1781 and is included on the 1977 Northumberland Strait map. In the past the name was often spelled King’s Head. The Mi’kmaq Name for the area was Panoqopskalajue’katik, meaning at the opening by a little rocky hill.

Little Harbour is a rural coastal community located along the Northumberland Strait on the south side of Little Harbour. Mi’kmaq name for the area is “Menpekwik” meaning Erosion. Woodburn, is a rural community located south of Kings Head along the west end of Merigomish Harbour. It was originally known as the Pine Tree Gut but later renamed Woodburn after John Wood, who received a grant of land here in 1810, combined with the Scottish word, “burn” means a rivulet or brook. The community name was also once spelled Woodbourne, which you can notice on the original Land Grant map for the area.
