Merigomish Harbor’s rich mapping history reflects its importance as both a fishing hub and a sheltered harbour. Comparing this historical chart with current digital nautical charts can reveal how coastal processes and human structures have reshaped the harbor over the past century. The 1842 Merigomish Harbor Map drawn by Jos. S. Latimer depicts both coastal outlines and underwater topography, designed to assist mariners entering and navigating Merigomish Harbor.
Gordons Beach is located along the Northumberland Strait in the community of Toney River, between MacQuarrie Point and the Toney River wharf.
Sams Point is located east of Roddys Point in the community of Caribou River. It is one of several small headlands and points forming part of the gently curving shoreline typical of the Northumberland Strait in Pictou County.
The Sunnybrae Game Sanctuary is a large protected wildlife area in Pictou County, established in 1930. It helps protect woodlands, lakes, and wetlands near the community of Sunny Brae, offering important habitat for wildlife.
Beaver Mountain Provincial Park is small picnic park with trails and protected areas located just off Highway 104 in the Indian Lake area and spreads across 2 counties (Pictou and Antigonish Counties).
This hand drawn 1850 Abercrombie point map shows the various boundaries of land grants (some with areas included) and the person that lot was granted to. The spatial extent includes the area between the East River and Middle River and is created with South pointing to the top of the map (unlike most traditionally maps that have north up). Thus, as you view the map you are actually situated around where the current Pictou Causeway is located, and looking towards the Town of New Glasgow, at the region that now makes up Abercrombie, Granton, and Mount William.

Beaver River is a small upland river system that originates in the Keppoch area (a broad highland that straddles Pictou and Antigonish counties), flows south‑eastward into Antigonish County as it collects headwater brooks (including Keppoch Brook), before ultimately drains toward the Northumberland Strait. The river flows across drumlinized uplands and mixed Acadian forest a landscape shaped by glacial deposits and modest bedrock relief typical of northern Nova Scotia.
Tthe Keppoch is a large upland mountainous geography located in both Pictou and Antigonish Counties. The area is well known for as a highland recreation area serving northeastern Nova Scotia with year‑round activities including hiking, biking, skiing fishing and hunting. The range is part of Nova Scotia’s mixed metamorphic and sedimentary uplands shaped by glacial action; soils and bedrock produce rolling ridges, wetlands and small headwater streams typical of the Northumberland Shore hinterland. It is a mixed Acadian forest containing both coniferous and deciduous stands with wetland pockets and managed woodlots in surrounding private and conserved lands.
