School Brook

School Brook is a small natural watercourse that flows through the rural landscape of Pictou County. It originates in an area around the north end of the community of Hillside, flows north through Chance Harbour, and Little Harbour.  The gentle gradients of this area create ideal conditions for wetland pockets, riparian vegetation, and seasonal waterfowl activity.

Towns and communities located along the East River include Sunny Brae, Stellarton, New Glasgow, Trenton, Abercrombie, and Pictou Landing and a few others. It is well known for fishing, especially for sea-run trout such as brook, brown, and sea trout, but also striped bass, smallmouth bass, and white perch.

Marshalls Crossing is a rural area north of Hillside on the Chance Harbour Road to McKenzie Head. In 1866, a rail line was opened between New Glasgow and Pictou Landing and this spot became one of the way stations along the route.
