Abercrombie
Abercrombie is a rural community about 2630 hectares in size, located east of the communities of Granton and Mount William, and north of the Town of New Glasgow, with the East River flowing along to the east, and the Middle River of Pictou flowing along the north west part of the community. It was named after General James Abercrombie, a British General with the 42nd or the first battalion of Royal Highlanders.

It was named after the ship Melmervey that was wrecked on the just off shore in 1890, and over the years the spelling changed to Melmerby.
