Forbes Lake
Forbes Lake is located in the Churchville area east of East River East Side Road (route 348). It was created in 1912 as a reservoir for the Town of New Glasgow (and the Town of Westville), under Province of Nova Scotia’s Watershed Management Plan. In 2003, the area surrounding the lake was designated a Watershed Protected Water Area by the Province.
Churchville
Churchville is a rural community located near the north end of Forbes Lake, along NS Route 348 (East River East Side Road). An early place name for the area was Robertsons Mills, after John Robertson, an early settler. The present name was given before 1846 because of a prominent church that stood here. Patrick Finner was the first settler about 1770.
Brookville
The Brookville area is located east of Forbes Lake and north of Springville. It is believed that it got its name by a prominent natural feature, Mclellans Brook which flows through the area.
