Fox Brook

Fox Brook is a small rural community located, west of Eureka, and north west of Hopewell. Country music singer George Canyon grew up in Fox Brook. It is also the name of a brook that flows from the Fox Brook area north between the towns of Stellarton and Westville and eventually into the Middle River of Pictou.

The Brookville area is located east of Forbes Lake and north of Springville. It is believed that it got its name by a prominent natural feature, Mclellans Brook which flows through the area.

Lansdowne Station, once a busy railway stop, is a rural community located west of Glengarry Station. It is named in 1884 in honor of Henry Charles Keith Petty-Fitzmaurice (the fifth Marquis of Landsdowne)
who was Governor General of Canada (1883-1888).

Lorne

Lorne is a rural community located in the East River Valley about half way between Middle River and West Branch, East River. An early name for the area was Big Brook, but this was changed by the locals in 1878, in honor of the Governor General, the Marquis of Lorne, who was married to Princess Louise (Queen Victoria’s daughter).

Millstream is a rural community located north of Centredale and west of Springville . There once was a large saw mill, a grain mill, furniture factory, blacksmith, and a log church located here. Bridgeville is a small rural community located along Route 348 in the East River Valley south-east of Grants Lake. It was probably named because of one of the principal bridges that crossed the East River was built here. Settlement in this area began about 1785.
