Dufferin, Pictou County

Dufferin

Dufferin is a locality located along Dufferin Road in the community of Sundridge, near the head of the Caribou River.  It was named after the Earl of Dufferin, Governor-General of Canada, 1872 to 1878. 
At one time, it was a busy area due to being located the rail line of the Canadian National Railways between Pictou and Oxford Junction (the rail has been removed, and now is part of the Trans Canada Trail).

Marshy Hope is a rural community located along the Trans-Canada highway, near the boundary between Pictou and Antigonish counties. James Mappel settled here about 1815.

Willowdale, Pictou County

Willowdale

Willowdale is a rural community located along route 347 east of Rocky Mountain and west of East River Saint Marys. It was named after the large presence of willow trees that grew in the area.

Marshdale, Pictou County

Marshdale

Marshdale area is located along Fox Brook west of Hopewell on the west branch of the East River. The name is largely descriptive.
