Dalhousie Mountain Nature Reserve, located in the community of Mount Thom, was designated as a Conservation Area by the Province of Nova Scotia in 2015. It is a 46‑hectare protected area that preserves rich mixed‑wood forest and several rare plant species, including round‑leaved hepatica, a woodland herb found in only a handful of Nova Scotia locations.
Dalhousie Mountain is located in the community of Mount Thom north of the Trans Canada Highway. It has an elevation of 341 meters.
Brookland is a rural community located south east of Dalhousie Mountain. Farms and Farmers of Pictou County, a collection of articles written by by R. H. Ward between 1919 and 1922 that showcases some of the many farms and farmers in Brookland area during 1914-1922.
Mount Thom is located on the Trans-Canada highway along the west boundary line between Pictou and Colchester Counties. It named after Thomas Troop of Truro who with Ephriam Howard, walked through the woods to help the Philadelphia settlers (from the on the brig, Hope) get established in 1767 at West River.
The 1879 Loganville Map (Section 5) is one of the several maps included in the 1879 Historical Atlas of Pictou County. It shows the basic topographic features of the community along with with prominent land owners and locations of buildings.
