The East River of Pictou is one of the major rivers flowing through Pictou County, featuring remarkable historic, ecological, and recreational value. The river is main up of two branches, the main branch, and a smaller branch that is called the West Branch East River. The smaller branch of the two, the West Branch East River, originates from West Branch Lake in Trafalgar and flows north until it unites with the main river, in the community of Eureka.

It is well known for fishing, especially for sea-run trout such as brook, brown, and sea trout, but also striped bass, smallmouth bass, and white perch.

Churchville - Pictou County

Churchville

in Pictou County Communities

Churchville is a rural community located near the north end of Forbes Lake, along NS Route 348 (East River East Side Road). An early place name for the area was Robertsons Mills, after John Robertson, an early settler. The present name was given before 1846 because of a prominent church that stood here. Patrick Finner was the first settler about 1770.
