Powells Head is a small head (south west of Mackenzie Head) extending on the shores of the Northumberland Strait in the community of Chance Harbour. It was formerly known as Powell Point until a name change in 1974.
Sinclairs Island Beach is a beautiful sandy beach found along the shores of the Northumberland Strait in the community of Chance Harbour.
Roaring Bull Point is a small outcrop extending out into the Northumberland Strait off of just off the coast of Sinclairs Island.
Chance Harbour is a coastal community found along the Northumberland Strait located between Pictou Landing and Little Harbour. The name dates back at least to 1829 and may have been given because navigation in its shallow and unprotected waters was somewhat risky.
Chance Harbour Beach is a provincially recognized protected beach located along the shores of the Northumberland Strait in the rural community of Chance Harbour. Known for its quiet setting and natural character, the beach forms part of a larger coastal system of dunes, barrier beaches, and sheltered inlets that define this region’s warm‑water coastline.
Its protected status reflects the ecological sensitivity of these dune and marsh systems, which provide habitat for migratory birds, coastal plants, and shoreline species that depend on undisturbed environments.
Melmerby Beach Provincial Park, is one of the crown jewels of Nova Scotia’s Northumberland Shore. The long, sweeping stretch of soft sand and warm, shallow water over the years has become a summertime tradition for generations of locals and visitors. Located in the small community of Melmerby Beach, just a short drive from New Glasgow, the park sits on a body of water famous for having some of the warmest ocean temperatures in Canada. In the height of summer, the water at “The Merb,” as locals affectionately call it, often reaches above 19°C, making it an inviting destination for swimmers of all ages.
School Brook is a small natural watercourse that flows through the rural landscape of Pictou County. It originates in an area around the north end of the community of Hillside, flows north through Chance Harbour, and Little Harbour. The gentle gradients of this area create ideal conditions for wetland pockets, riparian vegetation, and seasonal waterfowl activity.
