Four Mile Brook

Four Mile Brook is a rural community located west of Central West River, it was named because it was approximately four miles from the origin of the Cobequid Road.

It is also the name of the brook that starts flowing just south of Millsville (west of Grant Road), and flows east through the community of Four Mile Brook and into the West River.

Greenhill - Pictou County

Greenhill

Greenhill is a rural community located between Alma and Central West River.  The name is descriptive. The Mi’kmaq name for the area is “Espakumegek”, meaning high ground. Greenhill Lookoff Museum, operated by Cliff Ross since about 1930, was purchased by the Provincial Government in 1959. It was later closed and the area was converted into a Provincial picnic park with magnificent panoramic views of the Pictou County landscape.

Little Harbour is a rural coastal community located along the Northumberland Strait on the south side of Little Harbour. Mi’kmaq name for the area is “Menpekwik” meaning Erosion. Frasers Mountain

Frasers Mountain is a rural community located north east of New Glasgow. Settlers Archibald McKay and Donald Cameron settled here about 1801. A lot was granted to Isaac Wharing in 1789.

Central West River - Pictou County

Central West River

The community of Central West River is located west of Greenhill. The name is descriptive of the location about half-way up the river. “West River’ is also used at times. Settlement in the area was started before 1815.
Population in 1956 was 133.
