Eastern Passage

Eastern Passage in Amet Sound is a narrow tidal channel that separates the mainland near Cape John from the low-lying islands and shoals that fringe the entrance of the sound. Situated on the north shore of Nova Scotia, this passage forms part of the intricate coastal geography of Pictou County, where Amet Sound opens into the Northumberland Strait. The channel has long been recognized on nautical charts as a useful but sometimes challenging route, as shifting sands and reefs define its margins.

Seal Creek

Seal Creek is a small tidal watercourse located in the community of Marshville east of Rocky Point, and flows northward into Amet Sound along the Northumberland Strait.

While there is no definitive historical record confirming that Seal Creek was named specifically because someone saw a seal there. This naming pattern was common in early Nova Scotia settlement. Together with nearby features like Rocky Point, Angel Point, and Rushtons Beach, Seal Creek helps tell the story of how natural landforms, settlement history, and ecological processes intertwine along the Northumberland Strait.

John Bay

John Bay is a small but significant coastal embayment at the mouth of the River John, lying between the communities of River John and Cape John on the Northumberland Strait. It forms part of the sheltered waters of Amet Sound, where the River John empties into the strait, creating a transition zone of tidal flats, salt marshes, and sandbars.

Long Point

Long Point is a prominent well‑defined headland that has extends out into Amet Sound. The surrounding waters are shallow and warm, influenced by tidal flats and sandbars that extend offshore. This combination of rocky headland and sandy shoals creates a dynamic coastal environment, supporting intertidal habitats for seabirds, shellfish, and marine vegetation.

Angel Point

Angel Point is a small headland in Marshville, extending northward into Amet Sound along the Northumberland Strait. It is a mapped coastal feature that helps define the eastern side of the Marshville shoreline, lying just east of Rocky Point. The point itself is a modest projection compared to larger capes, but it plays a role in shaping the sheltered waters of Amet Sound, which has long been valued for its warm, shallow waters and safe anchorages. It’s rocky shoreline provides habitat for intertidal species and serves as a vantage point for observing birdlife and fishing activity in the Strait.

Rocky Point

Rocky Point is a prominent rocky headland on the Northumberland Strait in the the community of Marshville. It is part of the same shoreline system that includes Rushtons Beach and nearby sheltered coves; its rocky shore contrasts with the neighbouring sandy beaches and saltmarsh flats and helps define local nearshore currents and wave patterns in Amet Sound.
