Ambrose F. Church was commissioned by the Province to create a series of detailed color maps, one for each of Nova Scotia’s counties. In 1864. after completing his detailed map of Halifax, he completed the topographical township map of Pictou County. The map also includes several detailed inset maps (featuring Durham, Hopewell, Albion Mines now Stellarton, Pictou, and New Glasgow) as well as several small directories of prominent community members (clergy, blacksmiths, farmers, merchants, etc. ).
