Vameys Brook is a small fresh water tributary that originates from Vameys Lake in the community of Baileys Brook. It then flows north through the communities of Ardness and Lismore before eventually emptying into the Northumberland Strait.
The Ponds is a small rural coastal community located along the shores of the Northumberland Strait, just west of Lismore. This Ponds Map was created by combining modified topographic data, community details, and a shaded relief model to depict terrain features.
Knoydart is a rural coastal community situated along Nova Scotia Route 245, (also known as the Sunrise Trail), positioned between the communities of Lismore and McArras Brook. Its setting places it within one of the province’s most scenic coastal corridors; an area defined by rolling Appalachian terrain, forested uplands, and sweeping breathtaking panoramic views of the Northumberland Strait. It was named after a place in Inverness-shire, Scotland. A Battle of Culloden Memorial Cairn is located in Knoydart that was built by locals in 1938 commemorates three of the men who fought in the battle of Culloden in Scotland (Angus MacDonald, Hugh MacDonald, and John MacPherson).

The name was prompted by the numerous natural salt water ponds that existed here. These small coastal ponds in the region commonly form from glacial depressions, coastal inundation, and tidal exchange, producing brackish or saltwater ponds that influence local ecology.
The first part of the name “Ard” is suggestive of Aird, a town in the Isle of Skye (Scotland), as some of the first settlers in this area came from there. The second part “Ness” refers to a point of land running into the sea, however, Ardness is actually somewhat inland (although it does have a good view looking out into the Northumberland Strait.
