Willowdale - Pictou County

Willowdale is a rural community located along route 347 east of Rocky Mountain and west of East River Saint Marys. It was named after the large presence of willow trees that grew in the area.

John Fraser may have been the earliest settler about 1802. Donald McKay settled in the area about 1823. Other grantees were Kenneth McAskill in 1812 and Thomas Cameron in 1819.

A post office was established in July, 1895.

Farming and lumbering have always been the basic industries in the area

Population in 1956 was 50.
