Seafoam is a rural area located along Nova Scotia Trunk 6 between the communities of Melville and Toney River, and to the east of Cape John. It offers stunning views of the Northumberland Strait overlooking Prince Edward Island and its beautiful beaches.
Seafoam Lavender Gardens is a unique small agricultural business, dedicated to producing lavender products, and allows the public to wander through their picturesque purple lavender gardens.
Seafoam Campground and its beautiful beaches are a popular summer destination.
There are two alternative sources for the origins of the community name. One is that it comes from the name of a schooner that was wrecked here. The name of the ship was discovered when a plank from the ship washed ashore years later. The other is that it describes the state of the shores natural features during a storm.
A school was built here in approximately 1900. The first building burnt down in 1926 and was replaced by a nearby hall which served as the school until 1968. The building is now the Melville-Seafoam Community Hall.
Population in 1956 was 84.
