About Salt Springs Provincial Park
Salt Springs Provincial Park is a small, historically rich park that combines natural beauty with ties to Nova Scotia’s early settlement period. It is located in the rural community of Salt Springs along the West River of Pictou, just north of Trans Canada Highway 104 (Exit 19). Its landscape reflects both natural geological features and Nova Scotia history, from Indigenous use of natural resources to Scottish immigrant farming communities.
Established in 1972 under Nova Scotia’s Provincial Parks Act, the park includes picnic and recreation areas, forested trails, and a pioneer cemetery. For many years it also once contained a popular campground but was removed from park several years ago (to allow for an improved campground facility at Caribou Park) and associated infrastructure decommissioned.
Today, it is more of a quiet scenic rest stop rather than a large wilderness park, but at the same time still provides protection to many species of plants and animals. This peaceful, accessible recreational stop offers scenic views, riverside relaxation, and a glimpse into the province’s cultural and environmental heritage.
