Rogers is located south east of the mouth of River John. It was named after the Rogers family , who were among the early settlers in this area. John Rogers, arrived in 1767 with his wife and four children on the ship Hope. They received a grant in 1824. Donald Cameron, and Donald Cameron Jr., and Roderick Johnson received grants of land here in 1828. This early settlement, although perhaps not that evident, actually played a role in the broader development of rural communities Pictou County.
The Canadian Geographical Names Database refers Rogers as a Railway Point, possibly because it is no longer a populated place and was once a stop along the railway. The rail has been removed here, and it has become a great spot to hop onto the Trans Canada trail.
The Trans Canada Trail, also known as The Great Trail, is a network of recreational trails that connects together and spans all across Canada. This part of the trail runs from River John to Pictou, is suitable for various activities such as biking, hiking, and cross country skiing, and provides an opportunity for locals to experience the natural beauty and landscapes of rural Pictou County.
