About Piedmont Valley
Piedmont Valley is located in Pictou County, south of the Merigomish / Lower Barneys River areas, notable for its distinctive geography, historical roots, and close-knit community character.
Settlement began after 1810, with James Haggart from Kenmore, Scotland was one of the earliest recorded settlers. The name “Piedmont” is derived from the French ‘pied mont,’ meaning “foot of the mountain,” and was given by Rev. Dugald McKeichan to reflect the community’s location.
