Topographic maps in Canada
Topographic maps provide detailed information of features of a terrain accurately and to scale, on a two-dimensional plane. These types of maps contain details about terrain relief, lakes and rivers, forest cover, rural and populated areas, transportation routes, and various other man-made features. Topographic maps make excellent planning tools and guides, and are used for a variety of applications, from recreational uses like camping, fishing and hiking to urban planning, and resource management.
Topographic maps in Canada are available in two standards and can be purchased from map dealers (and many recreational related outdoor stores), or Regional Distribution Centres like the Geomatics Centre in Amherst. You can also now download NTS topographic maps in digital formats free and print them yourself.
Below you will find information explaining how to find both paper (fee based) and digital topographic (free) maps for all areas of Pictou County.
