Terrain Features: Protected Beach

A beach is  the gently sloping zone of unconsolidated material along the shoreline where land meets water. Beaches are dynamic shaped by waves, tides, and currents, and vary widely depending on the type of sediment, ranging from fine sand to coarse gravel or often a hybrid mix of sediment materials.Merigomish Beach - a Nova Scotia Protected Beach

A Protected Beach is an area of shoreline designated for environmental protection, typically to preserve sensitive habitats, prevent coastal erosion, or maintain public access. These designations are usually made under provincial or territorial legislation or policy frameworks, such as the Provincial Coastal Areas Protection Policy.

Protected Beaches will often have restrictions on development, vehicle access, or other activities that could harm the natural environment.
