Pictou County Atlas

Terrain Features: Beaches

Beaches are favorite destinations to many residents of Pictou County. From the sound of the waves crashing against the shore, to the feel of the sand between your toes, nothing beats a day spent by the Northumberland Strait.

Lismore Beach

In geography, a beach is defined as the gently sloping zone of unconsolidated material along the shoreline where land meets water. Beaches are dynamic shaped by waves, tides, and currents, and vary widely depending on the type of sediment, ranging from fine sand to coarse gravel or often a hybrid mix of sediment materials.

Sandy beaches are the most familiar, formed where fine sediments are abundant, and provide a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, often accompanied by a warm and gentle breeze.

Beaches offer a wide variety of activities, making them the perfect destination for a fun day. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon or an action-packed day,

With over 200km of coastlines, Pictou County contains many of Nova Scotia’s top beaches, as well as several not so well known ones. Pictou County beaches have something for everyone.
