Mount Thom is located on the Trans-Canada highway along the west boundary line between Pictou and Colchester Counties. It named after Thomas Troop of Truro who with Ephriam Howard (who Mount Ephriam was named after), walked through the woods to help the Philadelphia settlers (from the on the brig, Hope) get established in 1767 at West River. These were the first English speaking people to settle in Pictou County.
