Mineral resource land use maps are geographic tools that provide information about the mineral resources available in a particular region, as well as how they are being used. Mineral resource land-use maps can be used to identify potential sources of minerals, plan land use, and evaluate the impact of mineral extraction on the environment. They are also used to educate the public about the importance of minerals and the potential impacts of their extraction. They also provide a comprehensive picture of the location and use of various minerals in an area, enabling land managers and planners to make informed decisions about mineral extraction and land use.

The Province of Nova Scotia maintains a Mineral Resource Land Use (MRLU ) Atlas that they share publicly via pre-made map products, in  PDF or JPG digital versions (print versions also available, through the NSDNR Library – see map side blocks of the digital maps for further details) .
