Millbrook is a rural community located south of the Trans-Canada Highway, west of Rocklin.
Originally, some of the early settlers visited the area, and trapped a large bear, they then named the place Bear Brook. Donald McKenzie built a mill sometime between 1803 and 1809 which prompted the renaming of Bear Brook to Millbrook. Pictou County contains two brooks known as Bear Brook.
The place was settled prior to 1803 by Alexander McDonald and Kenneth McLeod. In 1803 a group of Scottish emigrants settled the area. Among these were Alexander Ross, Robert Gordon, Walter Ross, Donald McKenzie, Donald Roach McKay, Alexander McDonald and John Ross. Thomas Fraser, a native of Urquhart, Scotland, emigrated from Fort William in 1818 and obtained a grant of land here in that year.
A school-house was built by May, 1818, and a postal way office was established in 1855.
