Melville is a small rural coastal community located on the north of River John on the Northumberland Strait along Nova Scotia Trunk 4.
It was named after the Melville family who resided here in the early 19th century. The site was part of a large grant made to the trustees of Philip Marchington in 1811.
Population in 1956 was 79.
