Low Moor - Pictou County

Low Moor is an early settlement area in Pictou County, the name is no longer used but you can find it on many older historic maps. It was located north of Beaver Lake along the Sunny Brae Eden Road in-between the communities of Kerrowgare and Eden Lake. The name was descriptive, with “moor” meaning a tract of wasteland or unenclosed land.

Angus Mcinnes and Roderick McKinnon emigrated from Scotland in 1810 and settled at the head of East River. Duncan Fraser settled on land in 1818 to which Major Simon Fraser had received license of occupation but which he had never improved. Donald Cameron improved about an acre of Major Fraser’s land but went to Cape Breton before March, 1820.
