Kirkmount is a rural community located south east of McLellans Brook. It was so named because of a church that was built here. At one time it was considered to be part of the community of McLellans Mountain.
James Fraser from Inverness-shire settled here about 1802. Grants of land were given to Alexander Cameron in 1816, Donald Mclntosh in 1816, Donald Fraser, who emigrated to this country in 1801, in 1816; John Fraser who came from Inverness-shire in 1812, in 1819; and to Duncan Ferguson who came from Scotland.
Population in 1956 was 67.
