Kenzieville is located between Barneys River Station and Upper Barneys River. It was named after William McKenzie who emigrated from Sutherlandshire, Scotland, in 1803 and moved here in 1807. Soon after, the Robertsons, Dewars, MacKays, Bannermans, Sutherlands, Ross’s, Stalkers, Irvings, Mac Donalds, Bruces and others settled the area.
Famous nation builder, fur trader and map maker “Mad” Donald McKay is buried in the Kenzieville Cemetery. McKay worked for the famed Hudson Bay Co. before Canada, as we know it today, was born.
“When he was in his 60s, he remarried a Scottish woman, they had some children and they settled in the Kenzieville area,” Fran Wyman, a local resident, said. “He was known as ‘Mad’ McKay because he was so temperamental and difficult to get along with, so the story goes.”

A Presbyterian Church was erected in 1830.
Population in 1956 was 167.
