About Hawksbill Point
Hawksbill Point is a rocky headland located on the north side of Caribou Island east of MacKenzie Beach Provincial Park and extends out into the Northumberland Strait. It is the most northern tip on the island.
A Point is a land feature that extends into a body of water, typically smaller and less prominent extension of land compared to a cape . Sometimes used interchangeably with “headland,” but it generally implies a smaller and less significant coastal projection.
The point is labeled on the 1777 Northumberland Strait Map, but on the 1879 Map, it is labeled as Black Point, indicating that the names may have been switched here, but it is more likely a cartographic error.
