Country music singer George Canyon grew up in Fox Brook

Fox Brook is a small rural community located, west of Eureka, and north west of Hopewell. Along with other similar rural communities of the East River Valley, it became home to several early Scottish settlers.

Fox Brook, so the story goes, derived its name from some moose hunters, who while making their way up the East River, shot a fox at a point where the brook empties into the river at Eureka. This was about the year 1784, the first settler was Farquhar Falconer around 1792.

Farms and Farmers of Pictou County by by R. H. Ward details some of the many farms and farmers in Fox Brook during between 1919 and 1922.

Country music singer George Canyon grew up in Fox Brook (now resides in Alberta), and is believed to still own land in the area.  He was the runner up on the second season of Nashville Star in 2004.

Using the crowd sourced Find a Grave App, you can search the MacLeod Cemetery (includes names, photos and more).

Fox Brook is also the name of a hydrographic tributary that flows from the Fox Brook area north between the towns of Stellarton and Westville and eventually into Waters Brook, located just north of the Trans Canada Highway near Mount William. It then flows into the Middle River of Pictou.
