Concord is a rural community located along the Middle River just east of New Lairg.
The area was once referred to as Forks Middle River early on, and on early maps (such as the 1879 Pictou County Atlas & Nova Scotia Land Grant maps) was labeled as Concord Mills. The name Concord was given bv McArthur in 1855.
Alexander Fraser was the first person that settled at the forks of the Middle River. Tracts of land were also granted to William McKay in 1813, Archibald Sutherland in 1813, and William McLean in 1814.
Several mills were built over the years in the Concord area, Henderson built the first grist mill here, and was then succeeded by his son, Donald Henderson, who built another mill after that.
A postal way office was established in 1859.
