About Chapel Cove
Chapel Cove is a small coastal inlet that helps define the character of Little Harbour, quiet, sheltered, and deeply tied to the rhythms of the Northumberland Strait. But that subtlety is part of its charm. It’s the kind of place where the water lies still on calm days, reflecting spruce trees and sky.
The cove is labeled as McNeils Cove on the 1867 Little Harbour map. suggesting that it may have been a name change, although no records of this exist in the Canadian Names Geographic Names Database.
Along the shore of Little Harbour by Marie Cullen, Shirley Aikens, & Margaret Forbes, is a great resource for stories and history of Little Harbour and surroundings area (Anderson Mountain, Black Point, Boat Harbour, Chance Harbour, Kings Head, Little Harbour and Woodburn).
It provides details about many of the families that first settled the area, businesses, industry, hard ships, churches, schools, fire stations, and more. This book is now available to read online.
