Centredale, Pictou County

Centredale is a small rural community located south of Grants Lake and west of Bridgeville in the East River Valley. It was probably named this due to its location, being half way between the East River at Bridgeville and West Branch (now Elgin).

James McKenzie, a native of Inverness-shire, Scotland, settled here about 1802. Sometime between 1809 and 1815, he lost his land to William Forbes, an soldier who owned a lot fronting on the East River, and settled on another lot fronting along the River in 1815. Forbes and McKenzie received grants of the village site in 1828. A post office was opened in 1890.

Farms and Farmers of Pictou County is a collection of articles written by by R. H. Ward between 1919 and 1922 that showcases some of the many farms and farmers in Centredale during 1914-1922
