
The rural coastal community of Caribou Island is located on the north side of Pictou County. The Northumberland Strait borders the north shore of the Island and Caribou Harbour along the south, and a small isthmus generated over time, and the Caribou Island Road connects it year round to the main land .
The Mi’kmaq name for Caribou Island was “Komoogun-uk” meaning where birds are decoyed.

Topographic data features were interpolated from aerial photography acquired in 2003 and terrain features were generated from Lidar data acquired in 2017.
