About Cantley Point
Cantley Point is located on the East River of Pictou, around where the Nova Scotia Power Plant operates near Greens Point. It is one of several officially named terrain features along the river that have both geographic and cultural significance.
The name Cantley is associated with Thomas Cantley (1857-1945), a notable figure from New Glasgow, who was a steel manufacturer, Member of Parliament, and Senator.
Like nearby features such as Shipyard Point, McKay Point, and Stonehouse Point, it reflects the naming conventions of the riverfront, where prominent headlands were identified and recorded for navigation, ownership, and community reference. Taken together, these four points show the interplay of geography, industry, and settlement history along the East River.
