Black River is a small rural community in Pictou County located north of Plainfield.
The name Black River in Pictou County is also a common name and also refers to several hydrographic features. Four different Black Rivers exist in Pictou County, all in the west part of the county. Two of them are fully located within the county, while the other two, begin in Pictou County and flow west in Colchester County.

This Black River starts flowing south of Berichan and flows north into the East Branch River John.

This Black River starts flowing south of Fitspatricks Mountain and flows north to an area south of Beech Hill, where it flows west into the East Branch River John.
